“The aviation industry has been facing a pilot shortage for several years. In the past, most pilots came from the military but thanks to new technology like drones it has reduced the amount of pilot training and pilot jobs. Also, worldwide, the industry has a history of focusing its marketing towards men; up to 5% of pilots are women even though almost half of the population is female, making the industry miss out on a huge demographic. But it wasn’t until the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 that made air travel collapsed, making the issue worse.

The pilot shortage is intense for airlines and business jet operators. Pilot students have scattered to other private aviation fields that offer more predictable schedules, stability, and bonuses. Moreover, business jet owners look for professional pilots, they focus on personality as much as technical skills.

Many private companies and airliners opted to offer pilot training and programs to battle the ongoing shortage. For example, a jet charter company is offering pay to pilots while they get their additional hours. Another, cargo companies are providing Pilot Direct Placement Training where qualifying individuals after finishing the 2-year program will be automatically part of a fleet.

Business jet operators need to be aware to enhance benefits, wages, and quality of life in order to keep their crew from leaving or to beat the competition of getting an exceptional pilot. Private pilots carry many responsibilities when operating an aircraft but they can significantly reduce them with the help of a management company like Login Aviation Services, it’s our job to make aircraft ownership simple and more efficient.
